People will honestly ask “Does that poor person deserve food?” but never ask “Does that CEO deserve ten cars, three houses, and two yachts?”

And before you respond with “the poor person is buying that food with someone else’s money”, the CEO bought those luxuries with money earned from other people’s hard work.

A bar has opened that doesn’t serve alcohol, and it’s surprisingly successful.

Brillig Dry Bar in Ann Arbor, Michigan doesn’t serve alcohol, but owner Nic Sims is counting on customers not caring.

She hasn’t had a drink in 20 years, and she wanted to create a space where people—including, but not limited to, recovering alcoholics—could gather to have fun and socialize without worrying about drinking. In other words, she wants Brillig Dry Bar to have “a bar-like convivial atmosphere, with snacks and drinks and conversation, without it being a bar,” she told MLive.com.

Sims runs the bar as a pop-up out of her husband’s coffee shop, Mighty Good Coffee. She serves interesting non-alcoholic drinks, like Brooklyn Egg Creams, Pomegranate-Rosemary Sodas, and Vegan Pumpkin Chillers, as well as snack plates with meats, cheeses, and cookies.

Though some detractors have accused Sims of being anti-alcohol, the bar’s opening night last Friday was packed. According to BuzzFeed, “Brillig’s first customers included former drinkers, pregnant women, Muslims, teenagers, and college kids.”

The next pop-up will be December 26.

This is actually really cool, especially for people who can’t drink alcohol, like people with liver/digestive/processing issues.

That and alcoholism is such a weirdly normal thing and it shouldnt be, this is super important

// so I hate doing this but tumblr user @velarawave is STEALING ART. They are reposting a TON of different people’s art of all kinds on their blog, and using the barricade icons I PAID FOR made by @frostbittensweetly and accusing me of stealing from them. I can provide PayPal transaction screenshots to prove they are mine and are being used on @nocte-venator .

When asking them politely to not use it, I got this message and was blocked. If you see art you recognize please let the artist know so they can report this user!

I have also politely asked for them to stop using the icon, and have as of right now recieved no response. This is art theft, especially when the artist does not consent to you using their work even for icons.

As you can see below, they have ignored me.

Those barricade icons were a commission, and not available for general public use. None of my work is allowed to be used without written permission directly from me, fanart or not. Shit like this is why I have to bother with dumb watermarks in obvious uncroppable places so at least I get credit if my work ever is stolen.

I work my ass off making these pieces, getting commissions done so I can keep myself from going into debt and affording medication so I can eat properly.

I am not here so you can take advantage of me. Every time to do this shit, or repost without consent/credit causes another artist to lose money and quit posting their work altogether.

It’s a shitty thing to do, and no ‘well I don’t know the original poster’ excuse will suffice. Reverse image search, find the artist, and ask. Don’t fucking steal.

An update:

They are also stealing from multiple artists across platforms like DeviantART, pinterest, and likely places like instagram too. An example being this person’s work plastered all over their page:

https://www.deviantart.com/jullelin

They have also gone on to say these things:

If you can, report them to the original artists. Report them for being abusive, posting content that isn’t theirs- what they are doing is not being reasonable. It’s disgusting and wrong.

I know this is a long post- but please reblog this to help me out. This person is stealing not only my but a lot of others work, and they feel justified in their actions because they feel any art posted is free for them to use.

Nobody should deal with stolen artwork, it hurts so many people in the process.

Ready for a long ace-centric metaphor about sex?

Alright, so. Coffee. I don’t drink coffee. I have no desire to drink coffee. I find people who enthusiastically go on about the flavor differences of lattes, espressos, and french press brews, both amusing and mildly baffling. All the coffee ads. Coffee jokes. Bustling coffee shops. To me, all coffee is similarly bitter and unpleasant. I have been through so many “Try this, it’s sweet! You can’t even taste the coffee!”  Alas, I always can. And I’m  sensitive to caffeine anyway. So, I don’t really think about drinking it when I wake up or am tired.

Yet I love the smell of coffee. I love the idea of coffee. The feeling of a warm cup taking the chill from my fingers, the cozy ritual of having a drink and chat.

I might try someone’s coffee. If they ask, if I want to please them and share in something they enjoy.

I am also perfectly capable of learning the preferences of those I care about and creating a cup for their pleasure.

But I don’t want coffee, generally speaking. I will probably make a face after trying their coffee and wash the taste out with something else. They may rush to reassure me that it is an acquired taste. And I’ll have to reply that it’s a taste I don’t particularly care about acquiring in the way they did. ‘Drink it till you like it’ will never work for me.

But that doesn’t mean I am against coffee or think people shouldn’t drink it. Doesn’t mean I’ve taken a vow to never drink any. And sure, maybe if you get one of those sugar and whipped cream disasters, more of a warm milkshake than a cup of coffee, I’ll probably be happier sipping it with you. But honestly? I’d rather smell someone else’s coffee and not be expected to drink it. I’d really rather have the heat and sweetness of my hot cocoa.

I love this

The best part is it works for ALLLL the ace spectrum! Maybe you like one specific type of coffee on rare occasions! Maybe you enjoy coffee when you’re sharing the drink with someone! Maybe you can’t even stand the smell of coffee!

This needs to be on my blog.

This is it exactly oh my god.

would also like to add – maybe you don’t even dislike coffee. but…you don’t like it either. you’ll drink it, you think it’s okay, sometimes even good, but you’ll never go out of your way to have some. you pass the aisle at the grocery store. you hang out at coffee shops for the atmosphere and you definitely get why people like it, can see the allure, but it’s just something you can live without.

New goddess idea: She’s an earth goddess of the new age who’s domain is spinning and weaving, but specifically spinning and weaving gigantic structural steel cables for construction and other industrial purposes. Her skin is steel grey and hard to the touch and her hair is like long dredlocks of woven steel. She laughs at shitty architecture deigns that will fall apart if actually built and protects well-made bridges and buildings she likes. She might warn you of unforseen danger if you always wear your proper PPE.

Okay now what do I name her

O’sha.

Obviously

THAT’S PERFECT

I AM ALWAYS HERE FOR QUALITY WORKPLACE SAFETY REGULATION PUNS

That’s my goddess. 👍🏻

May O’sha bless you with earplugs that are comfortable and respirators that fit perfectly.

And good steel. Always good steel.

May your steel deliveries be always on time and your rebar strong

I’m just gonna…. put this here…..

hope you don’t mind

Update (Please Signal Boost)

Here’s an update on the Camp Fire happening in Butte County in Northern California:

1. The fire grew from 70,000 to 90,000 acres and is still only 5% contained. It is now the most destructive fire in California’s history

2. So far there have been 9 confirmed fatalities. 5 of these people died in their cars while trying to evacuate

3. The last incident report I saw said that the fire isn’t expected to be contained until 11/30/2018 but this information might have changed by now

4. A total of 6,713 buildings have been confirmed to be destroyed (6,453 of which were residential buildings, 260 were commercial buildings)

5. A text to donate has been set up by United Way to help with recovery efforts. Text “buttefire” to 91999

6. All school in Butte County is cancelled for the next week

7. The air quality in Chico is extremely bad right now so please stay inside as much as possible and keep your pets inside if you can

The Honey Run Covered Bridge (built in 1886) has been destroyed and is no longer standing. This is really sad news to me because I used to go there as a kid growing up and I’ve spent a lot of time there with my friends as well. It was a historic Chico landmark loved by so many people

Here’s a satellite picture of the fire showing how far the smoke has traveled

Here’s some additional information if anyone living in Chico or Butte County wants to volunteer. There’s also some information on evacuee shelters and animal shelters or if anyone is searching for a missing person.

My uncle is a firefighter working up in Paradise to fight the fire and he said that the entire town is just destroyed

Air Quality Information:

If you live in Chico or any surrounding areas, please stay inside as much as possible and keep your pets inside too

Chico is at 310 on the hazardous air scale (the most hazardous is 300+)

If you have to go outside please use a mask or cover your face in any way you can
