Reblog if you think they/them is a valid gender neutral pronoun
And not just “grammatically incorrect”. Doing this bc of some friends.
It’s not even grammatically incorrect though? That’s the funniest thing about all of the discourse. As a writer, as the person who got top English grades in all of my classes for all of high school and college. It makes perfect sense.
Think about it. You see it in books all the time. In TV and film. If you can’t identify what you perceive someone’s gender to be for whatever reason, you will refer to that person as they or them until you are given that information.
Example:
You’re catching up with an old friend you haven’t seen in a while. They’re (oh, would you look at that?!) telling you about a new person in their life. This person is called Sam. Sam is a fairly gender neutral name. Your friend hasn’t used any gender specific pronouns for them, but you want to ask a question. About this. Singular. Person. How do you word it? Now, you can either take a guess, and possibly wind up embarrassing yourself, which yes, some people do. But you’re more likely to ask questions like, “oh, how did you meet them?” “What do they do for a living?”
They/them is a perfectly valid set of pronouns that you probably use on the daily and just don’t realise it. So I don’t understand why it’s so hard to accept that people might actually like and PREFER them. Why do we have no issue with referring to people as they/them until we’re asked to do so?
learning how not to fish for compliments can really help how you interact with others. here’s some common phrases i’ve noticed:
“here’s my shitty art”
“lol i’m so ugly in this selfie”
“you’re so creative. i’m nowhere near as creative as you”
“your writing is amazing! i wish mine was that good”
what all of these have in common is that they all involve putting yourself down. when you do that, those around you feel obligated to compliment you, which can make them feel frustrated that they have to just to be polite. not only that, but by talking yourself down you feel worse about yourself. the latter two phrases also centre your problems, distracting the attention from the person you’re trying to compliment. that often makes them feel bad!
here’s how to fix those phrases:
“here’s my art”
“selfie time!”
“you’re so creative. how do you do it?”
“your writing is amazing! do you have any tips?”
by cutting out the negativity, you make it so nobody feels obligated to compliment you. you’ll usually get more compliments this way because people don’t feel uncomfortable! the latter two phrases now also centre the artist and their knowledge. not only do they make the artist feel good, they also might score you some good advice.
this strategy will also help to boost your confidence in the long run. if you stop prefacing every compliment with negativity, you’ll be able to internalise them better.
Moves by truck, train or boat. Ridiculously common. And see those holes on the bottom? Mobile by forklift. Also, HEAVY, even when empty they’re in the tons. If you had some warning you could string these things end to end for miles and human bodies can’t move them. Plus they’re nice and wide so you can comfortably walk on top of them for patrols.
“But we don’t have easy ways to kill them!”
Put the shotgun down you fucking idiot.
No tires to pop. Heavy and slow but inevitable. Climbing required to enter and thus, relatively zombie proof, especially if you spend like an hour to protect the glass.
A lot of large farming equipment can destroy cars.
Want to guess what it’d do to a decaying human body? It’s not pretty.
Now I know what you’re thinking. Merely flattening them with common construction equipment or farming gear isn’t enough.
How about a
tree trimmer that can mulch a tree top to bottom in nothing flat?
OM NOM NOM NOM.
“But we need ways to move a lot of people that zombies can’t stop!”
BEEP BEEP MOTHERFUCKER. Deer don’t have a chance and neither does a zombie.
“But that’s not good enough!”
NOW it’s time to call our friend the military because this ride stops for no one.
Do I need to keep going or is it clear the movies are bullshit yet? Seriously a dozen prepared people with heavy equipment licenses could clear an entire street of zombies AND powerwash it after.
Country folk can survive
Dude stack those connexes up and you got a sweet home. Lived and worked outta one for a year.
As you may have heard tumblr recently ‘killed the links’, making it so that any post that has any link on it (even if it links to tumblr posts or tags) will not show up in the /search/ function.
Well, I’ve got some GOOD NEWS for you. The /tagged/ function still works just fine. The bad news is the tumblr mobile app ONLY uses the /search/ function. The GOOD NEWS is the /tagged/ function has always displayed 33% more content than the /search/ function. Yup, you heard that right. If you were only using the mobile app, you were already missing out on TONS of content.
TAGGED VS SEARCH
/tagged/ function = tumblr.com/tagged/tag name
This is what most people refer to by ‘looking in the tag’. It only populates posts that have the tag name within the first 5 tags. If you’re posting alot, it will oftentimes only show your last 3 posts in a given tag to prevent you from spamming it. It’s very accurate.
/search/ function = tumblr.com/search/word
This searches all words in a given post, including the first 20 tags and the entire text of the post itself. The mobile app only uses the /search/ function and is missing 33% of what is available in the /tagged/ function. So if you only use the mobile app, you are literally missing 1/3 of what the fandom is posting. This is why I only use the more accurate /tagged/ function. Unfortunately, this is also referred to as ‘looking in the tag’ when it is not actually looking in the tag but ‘looking in the word search’.
I’ve actually avoided the /search/ function for years because of these problems. I only use the /tagged/ function but it is a bit harder to use on a mobile browser which is why I only look in the tags using my desktop computer. At least now you can still FIND all the content you might have missed.
I’ve seen a bunch of people in the notes concerned (like I was) of comparisons of members of the lgbt to dogs: but upon visiting their website I was reassured that they monitor a variety of content, including (but not limited to):
THIS IS A GOOD SITE
Yeah, this site is literally so people can check for content they don’t want to see…or in some cases content that would make them physically or mentally ill. (I have strobe issues myself…)
It’s highly useful for a lot of people.
I had no idea they warned for strobe effects, that’s awesome! They give me headaches and nausea.
