As you may have seen, it was reported that Producer Yoon Youngil of Media Line Entertainment has been abusing the members of the band TheEastLight since 2015. Today the leader of the group, Lee Seokcheol, and his lawyer held a press conference, regarding the band’s abuse. Lee Seokcheol stated that he and his members had been repeatedly beaten, clubbed by a baseball bat, choked with guitar strings and forced to smoke e-cigarettes. The CEO of Media Line Entertainment Kim Changhwan and Director Lee Junghyun contributed to the abuse by not stopping the assaults while having complete knowledge of them. They were threatened with their lives if they were to ever tell anyone, and leader Lee Seokcheol stated that he was also threatened with the lives of his members. He also stated that they would be forced to perform without their wounds being treated. Lee Seokcheol and his brother, the bassist of the group, Lee Seunghyun have moved out of the band’s dorm and have stated that they are planning to take legal action against the company.
These boys are between the ages of 15 – 18. They were brave enough to come forward about their abuse despite the threats and fear. Please support them through this time. Share their story with people around you so that their voices can be heard. Assault should never be tolerated, not in the k-pop scene, not anywhere in the world. Please give the members love and strength to make it through such a difficult time.
