Okay, as a lot of you know, I work overnights at a hotel. It’s for a pretty recognizable brand, so we get a lot of high paying customers.
Part of my job is to prep the breakfast area before the breakfast team shows up so that breakfast is done by the time it needs to be. This, of course, means that I have to step away from the desk. It doesn’t really help that the time I need to start working on breakfast is also when customers start checking out.
So I had the bright idea of making a sign. It’s not fancy, the letters are pretty big, and it basically just says “Hey if you need me I’m in the kitchen, just give a holler.”
It’s worked really well so far; people see it, they call for me, and I get them taken care of with little to no fuss. Or, at least, it’s worked up until now.
This guy.
This. Fucking. Guy.
I finish prepping the breakfast area, I walk out, and at the front desk is a man, huffing and puffing. He harshly asks “Are you working the front desk?”.
I say with my best customer service voice “Yes sir, I just had to prep a few things for the breakfast team. Can I help you with anything?”
“Yeah you can help me by giving me some fucking service. I’ve been waiting for almost five minutes and I have to catch my flight!”
Oh boy. Here we go.
So I tell the man, “Well, sir, if you’ll look right in front of you, if you needed me, that sign tells you that I was in the kitchen.”
And this man. Just. Fucking looks at me. And says.
“You expect me to fucking read on my day off?”
And I just.
I was floored. That someone would say that. Completely unironically. With no hesitation.
Just
Fucking customer service, man.
how could you possibly expect a fine gentleman such as myself to read
Oh btw Yzma is a golden example of a likeable non sympathetic villain. The audience knows she is totally evil and pretty much un redeemable but the writers and character designers did such an excellent job of making her so likeable and visually appealing A fucking plus
Kronks redemption arc has yet to be rivaled nothing can ever fucking compare.
OP did u just fucking call Yzma “visually appealing”?????
In terms of character design Yzma is visually appealing, the artists did a great job picking out colours and perfecting her silhouette. Using those design principles, they created an expressive villain that is fun to watch on screen.
op is absolutely right in that observation, good character design is about good use of shapes, curves and angles. Yzma is a fantastic example of that.
A d we can’t sideline Eartha Kitt for literally breathing life into her character to the point of perfection. Yzma was really was an exemplary villain.
Also of note, I think, is how Yzma interfaces with femininity. In that she does have feminine traits (that don’t feel ironic), but they don’t overpower her character. Especially her motivation. I feel like most other writers would have slapped a “so I can be pretty” motivation.
you know when a character thats lowkey mad™ or a villain character do that low rumbly chuckle thing? that ‘youre absolutely fucked now’ laugh? thats real damn good
except i can never talk about it, ever, because the word ‘chuckle’ sounds so fucking stupid it negates any cool effect it could have had. why is it so stupid sounding. i want my money back
she should greet jane as if nothing happened and see how jane reacts
she should avoid school the next day. And the next. Every night, she should put on the exact outfit she had on that day, hose herself down until she’s completely drenched and stand in Jane’s yard. When Jane is home alone, she should approach the window, staring at her. Knock on it if you don’t have her attention.
That’ll get her back for killing you and trying to hide the evidence.
Alright, I got many many messages about the recent bot epidemic.
The bots are back. But it’s 10x worse. Right now, they only reblog posts with a link. They don’t post photos or use tags, so it’s harder to find them (at least for me). I think we should skip stage 3 & 4 all together. We operate within Tumblr’s framework and it’s kinda limited. So I suggest this:
We report the domains to the businesses hosting them.
I am super tired but I recall that almost all hosts have a clause mentioning you can’t use their service for spam or fraudulent websites.
Take this website for instance: lnjdn.freedating.mobi
My suggestion is that we collect URLs and find out who the web host is, and that we then send an email to the hosting provider with prove they are violating their terms so they take the website down.
There are a shitload of bots promoting only a handful of websites, so this should be more effective.
